About Us
The Second Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen Medical College(Xiamen Second Hospital),formerly known as the Gulangyu Mission Hospital was founded in 1898.Led by city government，it was relocated to Jimei District at the end of 2003.It serves 1 million people around there on their medical needed,precaution,health care,recovering and so on.It is capable of treatment for severe patients,accident&emergency cases.It also takes responsibility for distribution of different grade of treatment tasks according medical reform.In 2015,it was successfully promoted to a grade III-A general hospital.In 2017,it became a direct affiliated hospital of Xiamen Medical College.Now it is the only grade III-A public general hospital outside Xiamen Island,which provides general medical,education,research and emergency services.The hospital covers an area of 66,000m2with a total construction area of 121,000 m2.It has total 1,300 beds capacity and1,300 of them are open for service.The hospital has 39 clinical departments and 12 medical technology auxiliary departments.In 2021,it served accumulate 1.47 million outpatient and emergency department visitors(excluding nucleic acid testing),52,000 patients were discharged.It completed 38,000 surgeries(including all kinds of painless technical operations).The percentage of third-and fourth-level surgeries was 60.6%.there were 45,000 hemodialysis patients.Average duration of stay was 7.88 days.The hospital has 3.0T medical magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),128-slice spiral CT,medical electron linear accelerator(LA),photon emission electron computed tomography(SPECT),large aperture CT analog positioning machine,double-plate DSA,holmium Laser,extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy machine,automatic biochemical analyzer,high-end ultrasonic color Doppler diagnostic instrument,various endoscopes,bronchoscopes,imported hemodialysis machines and other advanced medical equipment,with a total value of over 400 million yuan.The hospital has 1888 employees,including1521 health professionals staffs,575 of them are qualified doctors,879 of them are nurses.23 of them hold Ph.D degree,441 staffs with master degree.7 staffs are entitled as mater tutors.355 of them are with senior professional titles.Include 16 professors and 52 associate professors.

Academic development
(1)Key specialties
There are one municipal medical center,six municipal planning key specialties,two municipal superior sub-specialties,two Xiamen famous doctor studios,one municipal key clinical specialties,and eight hospital-level key disciplines.Respiratory interventional techniques such as stent placement via flexible bronchoscopy and rigid bronchoscopy,have reached leading level in international medical fields.More than 10,000 cases of patients are examined and treated by respiratory endoscopy every year.
(2)Communication and cooperation
In recent years,it has successively cooperated with Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health,Renji Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine,Affiliated Chest Hospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine,National Clinical Research Center for Nervous System Diseases,Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital(Beijing 301 Hospital),the Third Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University,the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University School of Medicine and China Medical University and other well-known domestic medical institutions,and established two"famous doctor studios"and sixteen"expert studios",allowing the people of Xiamen enjoy first-class domestic experts services at their doorstep.
(3)Scientific research platform
At the beginning of 2018,the Respiratory Disease Department in the hospital established the Institute of Respiratory Diseases of Xiamen Medical College,relying on the Department of Basic Medicine of Xiamen Medical College,with Academician Zhong Nanshan as the honorary director.In 2021,the clinical laboratory of the Institute of Respiratory Diseases of Xiamen Medical College,the clinical laboratory of medical testing expertise of Xiamen Medical College,and the central laboratory of the second hospital affiliated to Xiamen Medical College were established.

Teaching work
The hospital is the affiliated hospital of Xiamen Medical College,the teaching hospital of Fujian Medical University,Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine,Xiamen University School of Medicine and other undergraduate medical colleges.It undertakes clinical teaching tasks of more than 40 courses,with a total class time of more than 1,0000 hours each academic year.
